A Canadian national, India born, lives & works in Berlin, Germany
My artistic practice explores ecological memory, place, and time across lived experience. Having moved through eleven cities across Asia, North America, and Europe, I translate these histories into a layered visual language that reflects both past and present.
A primary source of inspiration is my maternal grandmother’s garden in India, where I spent my early years. Hibiscus, rose, and marigold bushes, a guava orchard, a neem tree, and a well formed an abundant ecological space. Watching my self-taught uncle paint there left a lasting impression. This site continues to function as a personal origin point. The garden was lost to greed & profiteering. Instead of a garden there is now a high rise catering to the privileged. The parallel can be found in the current state of our world as we lose precious resources for short-term gains.
Environmental change is central to the work I do. I draw a parallel between this remembered garden and the ongoing loss of ecosystems due to human intervention. The paintings hold a tension between beauty and ecological decline.
